Highlight of the Pongal Festival tour - Pongal festival which is one of the main and popular festival of South India, especially in Tamilnadu. It is celebrated during mid January every year. It's a- four days celebration which includes Bogi, Surya Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal.


Bogi :

Bogi is the first day of Pongal festival which is celebrated in honor of Lord Indra, who brings plenty of prosperity to the earth. People clean their homes entirely, collect all unwanted clothes & bonfire them; it means all bad lucks will go off from them immediately. They white wash their homes and decorate the floor with Kolam - designs drawn with white paste. They buy rice, turmeric, sugarcane to get ready for the next day's celebration of Pongal Festival tour


Surya Pongal :
This day is fully dedicated to Lord Sun. We say this is a thanking ceremony day to Sun God. People thank him for his kindness which he pours on them. People wear traditional dresses and offer him cooked rice with ghee and sugar cane. Later they enjoy the day with their family.

Mattu Pongal :
This Pongal festival is dedicated to Cattle. People pray bulls, cows and other farm animals as they all help the farmers. Cows always offer good milk and bulls help to plough the fields. These animals never expect anything from the human but offering many good things to them. To thank them people shower them and decorate their corns with colored paints. At last people show aarthi to them and offer Pongal. A famous Jallikattu is conducted on this day - A man who tames the bull is considered to be the courageous man.

Kaanum Pongal:
This Pongal festival is celebrated with friend and relatives. People meet their lovable persons on this day and share the sweets and offer new dresses. People get blessings from elders and they give money to show their happiness. People also offer food to birds on banana leaves.

Witness the celebration of Kaanum Pongal festival, later visit Thirumalai Nayakar palace, Musuem after the sightseeing you will be transferred to Madurai Airport, depending upon your flight schedule
